CHARITY

Charity Hour

“Upskill while you chill”! Charity Hour provides an opportunity for girls to learn new skills in a relaxed environment as they knit, sew and engage in various crafts in support of various charity drives.

Winter Warmth

Once a year Charity and Interact join forces to collect winter warmth goodies and sleepwear to donate to the Just Us for Children Foundation. During Charity Hour the enthusiastic supporters knitted scarves and lap rugs which were donated to this worthy cause.

67 Minutes for Mandela

On Nelson Mandela Day the entire school devotes 90 minutes to our contribution to this worthwhile cause. Every corner of the school is a beehive of enthusiastic activity as the girls decorate cards and pack sweets for hospital patients; make sandwiches for Bread Buddies or pack seeds for subsistence farmers. Projects vary from year to year but the spirit remains the same : our girls linking hands to lift the spirits of those less fortunate than they are.

Bandana Day

It is part of our annual charity programme to support the Sunflower Fund by selling bandanas. The charity hours girls have added their own creative flair by turning some bandanas into fabric flower pins which are highly sought after as a fun fashion accessory.

INTERACT

Interact projects enable our enthusiastic Danville Interactors to gain important lifeskills as they initiate and manage community projects that add value to the lives of young people in our area.

Christmas Shoebox Drive

This annual drive to provide disadvantaged children with a much treasured Christmas present begins as a Grade 10 community project where each girl puts together a Christmas shoe box gift . The project is then driven by Interact who motivate the rest of the school to donate boxes, wrapping paper and gifts. Approximately 400 boxes are delivered to the excited recipients after a special party where the Danville girls play “Father Christmas”.

Stationery Drive

Each year Interact manages a Stationery drive, collecting unwanted stationary from the Danville community to donate to the Learn Project.

Bread Buddies

The Bread Buddies programme is co-ordinated by FEEDBACK and enthusiastically supported on Thursdays by the Danville girls. Sandwiches and cans of food are collected from Danville and distributed by Feedback to needy communities.

Easter Egg Drive

Around the end of the first term, Easter eggs are collected for distribution to by Bread Buddies.

Sunnies and Sandals

As the Danville girls enjoy a hot summer’s day sporting their sunglasses and sandals, their generous donations are sent to Childline to help support their important work.

ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIETY

ECO SCHOOLS

Danville is a flourishing Eco - School. We are very proud of our Silver Award for our second decade in recognition of our sustained environmental projects over 12 years which earned us the following accolade from WESSA (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa): “We are all very proud of Danville Park Girls’ High School’s outstanding commitment towards the programme and are confident that you will continue to grow from strength to strength. Keep up the fantastic work Danville. It is a pleasure to work with you!”

For 2016 the focus was waste. We obtained our waste topic badge firstly for all the waste that we recycle in different categories and secondly for the various products that Danville’s Green Business, Originally Made Green, produces out of waste. The 2017 focus is healthy living.

Inspired by teacher Fiona Mann, the passionate Environmental Monitors and Prefects and members of the Environmental Society drive projects that raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage each person in the Danville family’s commitment to sustainability – both at school and at home. Whether switching off lights and taps, feeding the worms in the worm farm, fundraising for environmental organisations such as CROW or bringing paper for paper collection, Danville girls are the face of the new generation: passionate commitment to ensuring the health of our planet as they reduce, reuse and recycle.
