On Saturday, 12 March, 52 Junior Men and 20 Junior Women got to the starting line for the 2016 Bloemfontein ATU Triathlon Junior African Championships in Maselspoort, which features the future of South African Triathlon.
Tegan, a grade 9 student at Danville Park Girls’ High School participated in the 14-15 year group, representing Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The race started with a 400m swim, which Tegan completed in just over 6 minutes. She then transitioned through to the bike ride where she completed the 10km cycle where she averaged over 30km/h.

The final leg of the Triathlon was a 2.5km run and Tegan finished in a total time of 38:43 giving her 2nd place in the Junior Women’s Youth Race.

Well done ,Tegan! Your hard work and dedication has resulted in an amazing end to the season!

Fun Run

Danville Park Girl’s High School recently held its 3rd 5km Fun Run / Walk.

Before sunrise, the Sports Department, together with members of the Riverside Trail Runners’ Club, set out to mark the five kilometre route.

At 7:30am the runners, consisting of learners and their families charged through Danville’s big green fates.

Fifteen minutes later, the walkers took to the road. After a mere 21:47 minutes the first runner, Tegan, a Grade 9 pupil was in sight and successfully finished in first place.

The exhausted participants then relaxed over breakfast, cool drinks and a cuppa with vibrant music creating a lovely atmosphere under the cool shade of our beautiful trees in the main quad.

This year’s theme was Danville Goes Wild. Pictured here is the Nelson family who epitomised the theme and won the best dressed prize, a meal voucher from Comics Food Bar.

Danville Swimmers make a splash

The scene was set for yet another epic inter-house gala as the girls from Danville Park Girls’ High School took their seats in the stands, dressed in their colourful green, red, blue and purple outfits to support their various houses. The promise of a great day of competition soon materialised when two records were broken. Ally broke the Junior Individual Medley and the U15 Medley Relay was broken with a new time of 2:25:10. Ally won the Junior Victrix and Bianca won the Senior Victrix Ludorum. Many of the races were closely contested and supported by enthusiastic spectators, but Palmer emerged as the winning house. The gala was characterised by impressive competitive swimming times and Great Spirit shown by the Danville girls.
