Danville Park Girls’ High School recently celebrated Founders Day amidst much fan-fare, laughter and in high spirits as classes celebrated this special event, competing against each other in a friendly ball game called Shumpu. The perfect winter’s day started with an inspiring talk by Jessica Shaw (a past Danville head girl) followed by cake and drinks and ending with the winning classes earning the title as ‘Shumpu champions’!
Taking on challenging waves and strong winds at sea is all plain sailing for Hannah, 15-year-old from Danville Park Girls’ High School, who placed first in the ‘Open Class’ section of a KZN Youth Regatta, held in Durban recently. Hannah finished first in a very competitive field, beating 5 boys, as there are no separate races for boys and girls. Hannah has crewed with her father and brother for many years and only recently started sailing solo. Hannah loves this sport for the thrill of racing at high speeds through the swells. Her family says she is not afraid of a challenge and thrives in rough seas, when other sailors might be afraid or get seasick!
